Expanding Farms in Low-lying Areas

Have you ever wondered about the challenges and benefits of expanding farms in low-lying areas? It’s an intriguing topic that presents a unique set of opportunities and risks to consider.

When I think about expanding farms in lowlands, I can’t help but marvel at the possibilities. It’s like opening a door to a new world of cultivation right at our feet. But along with such prospects come certain risks that we must be mindful of.

Expanding farms in low-lying areas is no simple task. It requires careful planning and consideration. When it comes to choosing the right location, elevation plays a key role. Farms need to be situated at just the right height to avoid flooding during heavy rainfall. That way, crops can thrive without the risk of being submerged.

Understanding the unique topography of low-lying areas is vital. These areas are susceptible to flooding, which can be both a curse and a blessing. On one hand, the floods replenish the soil with nutrients, creating ideal growing conditions. On the other hand, excessive flooding can damage or destroy crops, causing great losses.

Interpreting the signs and patterns of weather is crucial when expanding farms in lowlands. By staying attuned to nature, farmers can anticipate potential floods and take appropriate preventive measures. This could involve building raised beds or installing drainage systems to keep the water levels under control.

Expanding farms in low-lying areas also bring benefits beyond increasing crop production. It can stimulate economic growth and create job opportunities for local communities. Additionally, it promotes sustainable farming practices and fosters a stronger connection between humans and the environment.

So, if you’re someone who loves the idea of expanding farms in low-lying areas, you’ll appreciate the careful balance it requires. By taking into account the unique challenges and opportunities these areas present, you can cultivate a thriving agricultural landscape that benefits both people and the planet.

Bank: When I use the Bank, I instantly get four coins from the supply. And you know what’s cool? At the start of the storm surge phase, I get one victory point for every four coins I have.

Level up with the Dike Association: Move your dike point marker forward by three spaces on the dike track right away. And guess what? During the storm surge phase, you’ll be able to move your dike point marker forward by two spaces for every three dike points you have. Uh-huh!

Oh, and here’s the deal: if you happen to land on any progress tokens, just hold your horses and leave their effects for later. No rush!

#image.jpg

Property: I can build two fences right away without having to pay anything. And when the storm surge starts, I earn 3 victory points for each of my pastures.

#image.jpg

Farmhouse: Right away, I’m gonna tell you to go ahead and take the bold step of expanding your farm. It’s like you’re putting a farmer with a skill level of 4 to work, building a cool new feature. Just make sure you have the resources to pay for it. And here’s the beauty of it: when the storm comes during the storm surge phase, each of your features will earn you 2 Victory Points. Talk about a sweet reward for your hard work!

#image.jpg

Home Base: When the storm surge phase starts, and you have six or fewer dike breach tokens, get rid of them without any consequences. If you have more than six dike breach tokens, this doesn’t do anything.

#image.jpg

A Farm for Breeding: Take one sheep from the supply and put it in your farm if you can. When the storm comes, you’ll get a sheep for every four that you already have. This sheep goes in your farm, even if you don’t have enough space.

#image.jpgFarm Buildings – Sheep

#image.jpg

Let’s talk about the Auction House: Every time I start a new turn in the game, right before I start breeding, I have the option to sell one of my sheep to the supply. And when I do, I get coins that are worth the value of that sheep plus one extra coin. Pretty cool, right? Oh, and if I happen to own the Shearer, I get an extra coin on top of that.

But wait, there’s a catch. See, this whole deal only works if I don’t have a laborer assigned to the buy/sell sheep action space. Otherwise, I don’t get any benefits from this cool auction house trick.

So, it’s like a little game within a game. I have to decide if selling one of my sheep is worth it and if it’s the right move for me in that moment. I gotta consider all the factors, think about how much the sheep is worth, how many coins I’ll get, and if it’s better than what I could do with a laborer on the buy/sell sheep action space. It’s not always an easy choice, but it adds another layer of strategy to the game.

And that’s the auction house for you. An opportunity to make some extra coins, but with a few things to keep in mind. Happy selling!

#image.jpg

External Stable: Hey there! You can keep up to three sheep in this awesome place!

#image.jpg

Feed Storage: You can store extra food in any space that is next to this tile and inside a pasture. This means that you can keep more sheep there.

What is a Fodder Silo?

Let me tell you about the incredible invention known as a Fodder Silo. It’s a structure that has the power to revolutionize sheep farming, and I find it absolutely fascinating!

When it comes to breeding sheep, one of the key challenges is ensuring they have enough food. That’s where the Fodder Silo comes in. It’s a special building that allows you to buy sheep from the supply during each upkeep, before breeding. And here’s the best part: you only need to spend one coin to purchase a sheep!

Now, I know what you’re thinking. Why would I need a Fodder Silo when I can just let my sheep graze in the fields? Well, my friend, there are a few reasons why this invention is so important.

Firstly, having a Fodder Silo guarantees that your sheep will always have access to food. This means you can breed them without worrying about their well-being. It’s like having a buffet of delicious grass and hay available for them at all times!

Secondly, the Fodder Silo allows you to control the breeding process more effectively. Since you can buy sheep from the supply, you have the power to choose which ones to breed. This gives you the opportunity to select the healthiest and strongest sheep for reproduction. It’s like being a talent scout for sheep!

Lastly, the Fodder Silo helps you manage the size of your flock. If you have limited space in your farm, you can use the Fodder Silo to house the sheep you buy. This prevents overcrowding and ensures that each sheep has enough room to thrive.

So, if you’re a sheep farmer looking to improve your breeding process, I highly recommend considering a Fodder Silo. It’s a game-changer that will elevate your sheep farming to new heights. Trust me, once you experience the benefits of this amazing invention, you’ll wonder how you ever managed without it!

In a pet shop, you have the option to keep sheep in the spaces between buildings. Here’s how it works: If you construct four buildings in a square formation, you can accommodate up to four sheep in the gaps between them. Each gap between orthogonally adjacent buildings can house one sheep. It’s a simple and convenient way to house your sheep in the city!

#image.jpg

Shepherds’ Guild: When you activate the Shepherds’ Guild, you get to do something very important. It’s like you’re a master shepherd, and you have the power to build or move fences with ease. You can imagine the fences as boundaries for your sheep, making sure they stay in the right place. But that’s not all! You also get to bring two sheep from the supply and give them a home on your farmyard board. It’s like creating a little paradise for your sheep, where they can live comfortably. It’s truly a wonderful feeling to be able to take care of these adorable creatures and watch them thrive. The Shepherds’ Guild gives you the opportunity to do just that.

Market Hall: I’m going to tell you about the Market Hall. It’s a special place where you can buy and sell sheep. And let’s not get confused, this is a place where you can only do sheep business. You can either buy up to three sheep from the supply for two coins each or sell up to three sheep to the supply and get four coins each. It’s a pretty good deal, right? But here’s the catch – you can’t do this at the same time as any other farm expansions, and having a laborer assigned to the buy/sell sheep action space won’t give you any extra benefits for this deal. It’s a straightforward transaction, my friend.

#image.jpg

Dairy: When I have dairy on my farm, I benefit by receiving one coin from the supply for every two of my sheep.

#image.jpg

Jam Stand: Whenever you fence off an area containing bushes in a field while performing a “build and/or move fences” action, you can add a sheep from the supply to your farmyard board, if it’s not already full. If you enclose the same space again by moving fences in a later turn, you can trigger this effect multiple times.

#image.jpg

Merino Farm: When you have a Merino Farm on your farmyard, you get an immediate bonus of two coins for each sheep that you have space to accommodate.

#image.jpg

Shearer: When I’m working on each phase of my job, I make sure to sell my sheep in the market. This not only brings me some coins from the supply, but for every sheep I sell, I get an extra coin. And that’s not all! When I sell sheep at the Auction House, I also gain an extra coin. However, it’s important to note that I don’t get any additional coins when I sell sheep at the Market Hall. So, if you want to make some extra money while selling your sheep, make sure to focus on the market and the Auction House!

#image.jpg

I’ve got a cool idea for you: How about building a cozy dwelling for your sheep? This special tile, known as a Byre Dwelling, can accommodate not just one, but up to four of your woolly friends!

#image.jpg

I have created both the Pet Shop and the Breeding Farm in my town. It’s convenient because they are right next to each other, with a space in between where I can keep a sheep.

#image.jpgThe Buildings and What They Do

#image.jpg

Welcome to the Builder’s Workshop! When you help strengthen the dike, you get to move your dike point marker one space further. This special bonus comes into play when you’re able to contribute to the dike through a farm expansion. However, it doesn’t apply when someone specifically asks for your help. So, keep this in mind and make the most of your opportunities to earn those extra dike points!

#image.jpg

Welcome to the Carpenter’s Workshop! When you want to “contribute to the dike” or “build a farm expansion,” you can save a piece of wood. That means you don’t have to use as much wood as usual. Isn’t that cool? This can be really helpful if you want to help with the dike without using any resource cards. You can also use this special ability when you’re helping or contributing to the dike in other ways. It’s like a superpower! And guess what? You can even combine this power with the effects of the Bricklayer’s Workshop and Stonemason’s Workshop. It’s like having three superpowers all at once!

#image.jpg

Construction Waste: When you finish constructing a building (not a special structure), you can right away do a “help the dike” action just like placing a worker with a value of 2 (other workers can affect this action, and you still have to ask for help after doing it). This benefit happens when you construct the Construction Waste.

So, after I finish building a regular building, I can immediately help the dike by taking a special action that is equal to placing a worker with a value of 2. Other workers I have can also influence this action, and even after it’s done, I still have to ask for assistance.

#image.jpg

Building with Bricks: When you use the “contribute to the dike” or “build a farm expansion” action in the Bricklayer’s Workshop, you have the option to pay one less clay than the usual requirement. This means that you can contribute to the dike without using any resource cards at all. This special ability applies when you are assisting with the dike in any capacity. You can even combine this benefit with the abilities offered by the Carpenter’s Workshop and the Stonemason’s Workshop. So, if you’re looking to save some clay and still lend a hand in expanding the farm, the Bricklayer’s Workshop is the perfect choice for you.

#image.jpg

Welcome to the Dike Tool Shed! Let’s get right into it. As soon as you step foot in the shed, pick up the resource marker and move it to the final spot on the construction yard track. This means that you’ve finished building the dike segment without having to use any resources. Pretty cool, right? Now, it’s time to move your dike point marker. You get to move it three spaces ahead on the dike track. This will bring you closer to your goal. So, go ahead and make those moves!

#image.jpg

Dike-reeve’s House: When you’re working, you can boost the power of your farmers by paying one coin per action. This means that every time you place a farmer, you have the option to make their action more effective by increasing its value by 1.

#image.jpg

Let me explain what the Tjasker does: When you have buildings on your farmyard board (not features like fences or walls), the Tjasker allows you to return one flood token from the highest flood level back to the supply. This happens right away, as soon as you use the Tjasker.

#image.jpg

Dike Court: When the tide is high and the dike breaks, you’ll only have to deal with half the number of dike breach tokens compared to other times (rounding up).

Community Center: When I’m working, if I put a farmer on a job site where there are already other farmers, I get a little bonus. My farmer gets even better at that job if there are more farmers there! I just have to remember that I still have to pay the normal cost for doing the job multiple times.

Stonemason’s Workshop: When you decide to “help with the dike” or “expand the farm” action, you can pay one less stone than usual. This means you can help with the dike without using any resource cards. You can also use this ability when contributing to the dike in other ways. And guess what? You can even combine this ability with the effects of the Bricklayer’s Workshop and Carpenter’s Workshop.

#image.jpg

Peat Cutter’s House: So, here’s the deal – when you do the “contribute to the dike” thing, you gotta look at your farm board. If you’ve got three or four spaces with lakes outside pastures, something cool happens. Your action value for placing a farmer goes up by 1 or 2, depending on the number of spaces.

Hey there! I’m the Fence Builder: When you choose to “build and/or move fences,” something awesome happens! If you decide to construct at least one fence, I’ll let you build an additional one, free of charge. How cool is that? But hold on a sec, there’s a catch. This perk doesn’t apply if you’re only moving fences around during the action. It also won’t work if you have another farm expansion or progress token that already lets you build a fence. So, remember, it’s all about building those fences!

#image.jpg Features Galore!

#image.jpg

Berry Bushes: During every high tide, I get one coin for each space on my farmyard board that has a berry bush and is not inside a pasture. It’s like finding treasure, growing right there on my land! I can use these coins to buy all sorts of things I need for my farm. The more berry bushes I have, the more coins I get. It’s a great way to make some extra money and take care of my farm at the same time!

#image.jpg

My Fish Pond: When a storm surge happens, I always make sure to check if I have three or four empty spaces on my farmyard board that represent lakes and are not part of my pastures. If I do have these spaces, it’s my lucky day because I get to earn either 7 or 10 Victory Points, depending on whether I have three or four spaces, respectively.

Forest Cabin: When I surround any area that has trees with fences during a “build and/or move fences” action, I get to draw two cards from the resource deck. I can even do this multiple times if I move the fences and enclose the same space with trees again later.

#image.jpg

Feeding Trough: As soon as I find a Feeding Trough, I get to add a sheep from the supply to my farmyard board. If I have space, the sheep gets a cozy home right away. And here’s the cool part, if the Feeding Trough is in a pasture, I can even house two sheep on it! Now that’s what I call a good deal.

#image.jpg

Overgrowth Patch: I like to call this tile the “Bushy Spot.” It’s a special place, covered in bushes, where something magical can happen. But there’s one important rule – this tile has to be built on a space with bushes. It’s like finding the perfect spot in the forest where the bushes are thick and lush.

If you’re lucky enough to have this tile inside a pasture, something even more special can happen. You can bring up to three sheep to graze on this beautiful patch of overgrown bushes. It’s like a little sheep paradise, with plenty of delicious food for them to eat.

But here’s the thing – not everyone can appreciate the beauty and wonder of an overgrowth patch. Some people might see it as just a regular tile with some bushes on it. They don’t understand the magic that happens when you combine the right tile with the right space.

So, if you find yourself with an overgrowth patch in your possession, make sure you find the perfect spot for it. It’s like finding a hidden treasure and unlocking its full potential. And if you’re lucky enough to have a pasture nearby, it’s like discovering a secret sheep paradise.

Remember, the overgrowth patch is more than just a tile – it’s an opportunity to create something truly special. So take a moment to appreciate its beauty and find the perfect place for it in your world.

#image.jpg

Slurry Tank: I can put one sheep on each corner of my farmyard board if there is no farm expansion, whether it’s inside or outside a pasture.

#image.jpg

Dog House: I can put one sheep in this spot. If I put a fence around a group of spaces on my board, it becomes a pasture.

#image.jpg

Compost Shed: You’ll need to find a spot with a tree to build a Compost Shed. It’s important to consider that it should be built on a space that has a tree. And here’s a neat trick – if that spot happens to be inside a pasture, you’ll be able to house up to three sheep there!

#image.jpg

Orchard: When a storm surge begins, take a moment to see if you have any open spaces on your farmyard board where trees are growing beyond your pastures. Look for three, four, or five of these spaces. If you find them, you’ll earn 5, 10, or 15 victory points, respectively.

#image.jpg

Hay Rack: Have you ever heard of a hay rack? It’s like a special place for sheep to stay. But did you know that a hay rack can be found both inside and outside of a pasture?

If a hay rack is outside of a pasture, it can hold up to two sheep. It’s like a cozy little home for them. But if a hay rack is inside a pasture, it’s even better! Inside a pasture, a hay rack can hold up to three sheep. It’s like a luxury hotel for our woolly friends!

So, you see, a hay rack is a special spot for sheep. It’s a place where they can rest and eat, all in one convenient location. Whether it’s inside or outside a pasture, a hay rack is always a good choice for our fluffy friends!

#image.jpg

Sheep Farm: When I have a Sheep Farm, I get to bring in a sheep to my farmyard right away. I love having cute little sheep roaming around! Not only that, but for every empty space on my farmyard that has bushes and is inside a pasture, I get five coins. That means more money for me!

#image.jpg

Shelter: When I come across a shelter, I should act immediately and help with the dike. It’s like I have a farmer with a power of 3 performing the labor, and I can also ask for assistance when I finish. But here’s the thing, if the shelter is not in a pasture, I can also keep up to two sheep there.

#image.jpg

Buried Treasure: When you find it, you get three coins to add to your collection of riches.

Lake Cabin: You’ve gotta build this one on a space that’s got a lake. When the storm surge starts, I get 3 victory points for every space next to me that’s not part of a pasture and doesn’t have a farm expansion tile on it. Oh, and guess what? You can even put me right in the middle of a pasture. But be careful, ’cause I won’t give you any victory points if there’s a space next to me that’s enclosed by a Dog House.

#image.jpg

When it comes to building a drinking trough: you’ll be thrilled to learn that you can create one fence right away, without having to spend any resources. It’s a simple and convenient process that allows you to establish the trough with ease.

If you have a pasture on this tile, the benefits increase even more. Not only can you build the drinking trough, but you can also house up to two sheep on it. This is a fantastic advantage that maximizes the functionality of your pasture and provides a comfortable space for your livestock.

Imagine the convenience of having a dedicated spot for your animals to hydrate and enjoy the fresh water. It’s an essential addition to any farm and ensures that your sheep have access to the water they need to stay healthy and thrive.

In addition, the drinking trough has a unique design that is both practical and aesthetically pleasing. It blends seamlessly into the landscape, enhancing the overall beauty of your farm while serving a vital purpose.

So, if you’re looking to create a functional and visually appealing space for your sheep to graze and drink, building a drinking trough is the perfect solution. You’ll love the convenience it offers and the positive impact it has on your farm.

#image.jpg

Welcome to the Watering Hole! Here on your farm, you’ve got special spaces just for your sheep. These spaces are located by the lakes on your farmyard board, and they sit outside of your pastures.

So, what does this mean for you? Well, it means that you can keep one sheep in each of these lake spaces. The lakes are like little oasis spots for your sheep to enjoy. It’s a nice place for them to gather, drink water, and have a little rest.

Having these lake spaces is beneficial for you because it gives you more options for housing your sheep. Instead of crowding them all into the pastures, you can spread them out to different lake spaces. And, if you have a lot of sheep, this can be really handy!

However, it’s important to remember that you can only house one sheep on each lake space. So, if you have more sheep than available lake spaces, you’ll need to make some decisions. You’ll have to choose which sheep you want to keep at the lakes and which ones you want to keep in the pastures.

But don’t worry, because it’s totally up to you. You can decide how to allocate your sheep and where they’ll be happiest. Just make sure to consider the needs of each sheep and choose the best spots for them.

So, let’s make the most of these lake spaces on your farmyard board! Give your sheep a chance to enjoy some water and relaxation out in nature. They’ll appreciate it, and you’ll have a well-organized farm with happy sheep all around.

#image.jpg

On my farm, I have an interesting challenge. There are various spaces that I can enclose with a single fence. But here’s the thing: the space only counts as enclosed if it’s possible to fence it off with just one fence. If it would take more than one fence, then the space is not considered closed.

However, I have a solution to this problem – I have a special area on my farm called the Dog House. And let me tell you, it’s a game-changer! The Dog House allows me to treat it as an enclosed pasture, so I can house sheep on the spaces within it.

Now, here’s the best part: even the Dog House itself can be used to house a sheep! So not only can I use the spaces within it, but the Dog House itself becomes a cozy home for one of my woolly friends.
