Welcome to the World of Pumba!
Hey there! Have you ever played Pumba? It’s a super fun card game from Spain that can be played with 2-6 players. It’s quite similar to games like Crazy Eights or UNO, where your goal is to be the first one to get rid of all your cards. But here’s the twist – Pumba has some special cards that make it really unique and exciting! You can play it with a 40-card Spanish deck or with a modified 52-card deck. Let’s dive in and learn more about this awesome game!
The Cards and the Deal
In a traditional Pumba game, you use a 40-card Spanish deck, but you can easily modify a regular 52-card deck to play as well. All you need to do is remove the 8s, 9s, and 10s to get your 40-card deck ready for action.
To start the game, the dealer shuffles the deck and deals 5 cards to the player on their left. Then, each player receives 4 cards. The remaining deck becomes the stock and is placed face down in the middle of the table. Exciting stuff, right?
The Play
When we play this card game, the player sitting on the dealer’s left gets to choose the first card to start the discard pile. After that, they should have only 4 cards left in their hand. Then, it’s the next player’s turn. The rule is that each player has to match either the suit or the number of the card that was just played. But if they don’t have a card that matches, they have to skip their turn.
SPECIAL CARDS
Now, this game has six special cards that have their own actions:
When an Ace is played, everyone has to be completely silent until the next card is played. If someone speaks, they have to draw two cards from the deck.
When a 2 is played, the next player has to draw two cards from the deck. But, if that player has another 2, they can play it and pass the penalty to the next player, who will have to draw four cards! This can keep going if every player has a 2, and the penalties keep getting bigger and bigger.
When a 7 is played, the direction of turns changes. Instead of going clockwise, now it goes counterclockwise.
Hey there! Let’s talk about the rules of a cool card game called Pumba. It’s super fun and easy to learn, so get ready to have a blast!
First off, we’ve got the Jacks. These cards are wild, which means they can be played at any time. You can even play a Jack right after a 2. And here’s the exciting part: when you play a Jack, you get to choose the suit that everyone else has to follow. How cool is that?
Now, let’s move on to the Queens. They have a special power – they skip the next player’s turn. So if you play a Queen, the person next to you doesn’t get a chance to play. Sneaky, right?
Next up, we have the Kings. When you play a King, you can also play another card of the same suit. It’s like an extra bonus card for you to play. Talk about having the upper hand!
Play continues until someone has only one card left. And when that happens, they have to yell out “Pumba”. But watch out! If someone says it before you do, you have to draw two extra cards as a penalty. So make sure you’re quick!
The round comes to an end when a player gets rid of their very last card. The sense of satisfaction is real!
SCORING
Now, let’s talk about scoring. At the end of the round, the player who managed to empty their hand deducts 5 points from their score. But don’t worry, it’s not all about winning. Even if you still have cards left in your hand, you can still earn penalty points.
For every Three you have, you get 3 points. Fours give you 4 points, Fives give you 5 points, and so on. A Queen is worth 9 points. So even if you didn’t win the round, you can still score some points.
Now that you know the rules and scoring of Pumba, it’s time to gather your friends and family for a game night. Get ready for some exciting card-playing action. Have fun!
When playing the game, each King card is worth 10 points. The same goes for each Jack card. So if you have a King or a Jack, you get 10 points. If a player reaches a total of 100 points or more, they are out of the game.
How to Win
The player who is the last one standing wins the game. So keep playing and strategizing to be the final player remaining at the end!
