TARGUI

Hey there! Welcome to Targui, a game where you get to be in control of your very own Tuareg tribe. It’s all about developing your tribe by gathering resources and trading. And let me tell you, it’s quite the adventure!

So, here’s the deal. You’ll need to strategically place your Targui figurines to unlock special abilities and collect valuable resources. These resources will come in handy when it’s time to buy new cards and expand your tribe. Just watch out for that pesky thief who loves to raid! Make sure to set aside some resources to protect yourself from disappointment.

SETUP

Alright, time to set up the game. Start by placing the 16 Territory cards (also known as border cards) in a rectangular shape. The width and length of the rectangle should be five cards each, and make sure to arrange them in numerical order from 1 to 16. Oh, and don’t forget to place card number 16 in the top left corner. These cards are there to stay, so no moving them!

Next up, we have the Tribe and Merchandise cards. These are the central cards of the game. Take the grid of cards and alternate between placing Merchandise and Tribe cards:

Merchandise, Tribe, Merchandise
Tribe, Merchandise, Tribe
Merchandise, Tribe, Merchandise

And there you have it, you’re all set up and ready to start your Targui adventure! Have fun and may your tribe thrive!

I’m going to give you a list of items each player needs:

  • 3 wooden Targui figures in their own color
  • 2 cylindrical wooden Tribe markers in their own color
  • 6 items: 2 dates, 2 salt, 2 pepper
  • 1 Gold
  • 4 Victory Point tokens

Gameplay: Get Ready for an Adventure!

Okay, listen up! The game we’re about to play has a fixed time limit of 15 turns. That’s the number of times the Thief gets to go around the Territory cards. Exciting, huh?

The Exciting Stages of a Turn

Here’s how each turn goes down:

1. I move the Thief one square clockwise. Easy peasy, right?

  • Now keep in mind, on the very first turn, I’ll place the Thief on the number one square, which is called The Noble. Cool name, huh?
  • Oh, and here’s the thrilling part – when the Thief reaches a corner, it’s time for a Raid! Imagine the suspense!

2. Next, it’s time to bring in the Targui figurines. They’re the real stars of the show!

  • One by one, starting with yours truly, all the players will place their 3 Targui figurines on the Territory cards.
  • Magically, with each player making their move, there will be a total of 3 Territory cards occupied by each player. That’s because each player has 3 Targui figurines – pretty neat, right?

Hey there! Let me walk you through the rules of this awesome game called Targui. But first, I want to mention that there are a few things you need to keep in mind. You can’t place a Targui on certain cards, like the one with the Thief or Raid card in the four corners. Also, you can’t place a Targui next to another Targui or facing an opposing Targui in the central zone. Got it? Great!

Now, let’s get started with the game setup. Here’s what you need to do:

Step 1: Set up the board

First, place all the cards on the table. Remember not to include the cards where the Thief is or the Raid card in the four corners. Keep them aside for now.

Step 2: Place Tribe markers

Next, you need to place Tribe markers on the 9 central cards. Each player will do this by drawing an imaginary line from their Targui counters to the opposite side of the board. Each line will cross over some of the central cards, and that’s where you’ll place your Tribe markers.

If you have two Targui figurines on the same column or row, you’ll only have one crossing point and won’t be able to place all your Tribe markers. So keep that in mind!

Step 3: Take action!

Now it’s time to start playing! The first player can take all their action using their Targui figurines and Tribe markers. It’s time to strategize and make your moves.

That’s it! You’re all set to play Targui. Have fun and may the best player win!

The Importance of Choosing the Right Actions in Targui

In the exciting game of Targui, the key to success lies in selecting the right actions to take. As I navigate through the game, I must carefully consider my choices, as each action has a significant impact on my progress. It’s crucial to be strategic and thoughtful in my decision-making process.

One essential rule to remember is that I must fully complete the action of one card before moving on to the next. Whether it’s using the action of a Territory card occupied by my Targui figurine or a central card occupied by my Tribe marker, I must ensure that I make the most of each opportunity.

The order of play is crucial, as it sets the stage for how the game unfolds. Let’s take a closer look at the actions available to me:

A) Territory cards: When I choose a Territory card, I regain my Targui figurine. However, the card remains in the same location. I must carefully read the conditions of the card to understand what action I can perform.

B) Central cards: Choosing a central card allows me to retrieve my Tribe marker and perform an action based on the nature of the card. The possibilities are vast, and I must consider each option to maximize my progress.

It’s important to note that the second player follows the same rules and carries out their actions. This keeps the game fair and balanced, ensuring that everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed.

As I embark on my Targui adventure, the choices I make have a direct impact on my journey towards victory. I must carefully assess each decision, weighing the pros and cons, and considering the potential outcomes. By choosing the right actions, I can elevate my game and increase my chances of success.

So, are you ready for the challenge? Step into the world of Targui and conquer the desert by making the right moves!

When you play the game, you’ll come across two types of cards: merchandise cards and tribe cards. Let me explain how each of them works.

Merchandise cards are pretty straightforward. When you draw a merchandise card, you’ll receive the reward indicated on the card, such as victory points or gold. Once you’ve collected your reward, the merchandise card is placed face down in the discard pile. But don’t worry, it will be replaced by a new card of the opposite type (either merchandise or tribe).

As for tribe cards, they’re a bit different. When you draw a tribe card, you need to pay its cost in order to keep it. If you don’t have enough resources to pay for it, you can still hold onto the card in your hand. But here’s the catch – you can only have one tribe card in your hand at a time.

To use or discard a tribe card that you have in your hand, you’ll need to play another card called “The Noble.” This card allows you to make a choice – either use the tribe card’s power or get rid of it. If you happen to draw another tribe card while you already have one in your hand, you must discard the extra card and keep the original tribe card.

Moving on, let’s talk about the new central cards. These are the merchandise and tribe cards that are placed face down in the center of the playing area. At a certain point in the game, these central cards are turned over to reveal their rewards.

One important thing to note is the change of the first player. When the central cards are revealed, the current first player must pass the amulet to their opponent, who then becomes the new first player. It’s a simple way to keep things fair and balanced.

So, now you know how merchandise cards, tribe cards, and central cards work in the game. Make sure to strategize your moves wisely and use these cards to your advantage. Good luck!

More Rules to Know

The Raids

When I take control of a Raid card, you have to pay attention to what it says. Starting with me, each of you will have to decide whether to lose goods, victory points, or gold based on what the Raid card indicates. Any losses you have will go back into the reserve. After that, I’ll quickly move the thief to the next Territory card, and then it’s your turn to place your Targui.

  • Cost:
    • You can see the cost in the upper left corner of the card.
  • Note: Some cards have a slash mark. That means you get to choose whether to pay for it with Goods or Gold.
  • The victory points (PVs) are displayed in the bottom right-hand corner of the card.
  • They can range from 1 to 3.
  • Any Tribe cards you collect will go on your personal display.

This is a display with three rows and each row has four cards. The cards are placed from left to right in each row. You don’t have to fill a row completely before starting another row. You can fill multiple rows at the same time. Once the cards are placed in the display, they stay there until the game ends.

At the end of a round, there are limits on the number of goods and gold you can keep for the next round. If you have more than 10 goods or more than 3 gold, you have to discard the extra items into the reserve. You get to choose which goods you want to discard. It’s important to know that there are no limits on the number of goods or gold you can have during your turn.

  • Your best bet is to use the Merchant and Goldsmith cards or play Tribe cards to keep things under control.

GAME OVER

The game will end when one of us has a display filled with 12 Tribe cards OR when the Thief reaches the last corner of the “cards board” (which is the 16th Territory card: Raid #4).

Total Points

We will add up our victory points: Victory tokens, VPs in the bottom right-hand corner of the Tribe cards, and display bonus

  • +4 VP for each row of 4 cards with the same symbols
  • +2 VP for each row of 4 cards with different symbols

The player with the most victory points wins. If we tie, the player with the most gold wins. If the tie continues, the player with the most goods wins.
