What’s in the Box?

• There are 20 dice in four different colors: red, black, white, and yellow.
• A draw bag is included.
• There are also 6 dice cups.
• You’ll find 90 poker chips in denominations of 10s, 50s, and 100s.

What’s the Goal of the Game?

Your objective is to win poker chips in each hand by having the best five-dice combination. The ultimate victory is achieved by being the last player standing.

How to Play

The game consists of multiple hands. At the start of each hand, every player receives two “pocket” dice that they must keep concealed under their dice cups.

Next, the Dealer rolls the Flop, Turn, and River community dice, which amounts to a total of five dice. As the dice are rolled, each player aims to obtain the most favorable five-dice hand possible.

When I play poker, I have the choice to either add some chips to the pot or fold my hand. This decision is repeated four times throughout the game. Finally, in the Showdown, all the players who didn’t fold reveal their hands and compare them. Whoever has the best hand takes home all the chips in the pot. We then start a new hand and keep playing until there’s only one player left standing – the ultimate winner!

Let’s start a game!

To get the game going, we need to choose someone as the Dealer for the first hand. The Dealer has the important job of “dealing” the pocket dice and the community dice. After each hand, the role of the Dealer will shift to the player on the left.

The first Dealer is in charge of dividing all the chips equally among the players. Any extra chips are removed from the game. Once that’s done, the Dealer takes all 20 dice and puts them into the dice bag. Give the bag a good shake, and we’re ready to roll!

Now, let’s dive into the steps for playing each hand. There are five steps in total, and I’ll explain them in detail below.

1. The Open

Here we go! Everyone needs to ante up by putting one 10-point chip into the pot in the center of the table.

Let’s play pocket dice. I’ll start by taking two dice from the bag and putting them in a cup. Then, I’ll pass the cup to you. The dealer will take their two dice last and put them in a cup.

Now, everyone shakes their cup with the dice inside and puts it upside down on the table. Throughout the game, you can secretly look at your dice by lifting your cup. Just make sure no one else sees them! Only you can use your pocket dice.

Now it’s time to bet. Starting from the left of the dealer, each player can either check, bet, or fold. Once a bet is made, each player can call, call and raise, or fold. (To learn more about the betting options, check the next page).

There’s a limit to betting: In the first two rounds of betting, called the Open and Flop, there’s a specific limit to how much you can bet.

A bet can only go up to 10, and each raise is also limited to 10. You can’t raise more than three times.

Ending the round: The betting goes on until all players in the game have placed the same amount of chips in the pot, and no one increases the current bet any further.

2. The Flop

The Dealer shakes the bag and then randomly takes out three dice and rolls them on the table. These three dice are the first three of the five community dice that the Dealer will roll.

All players look at the Flop dice to see how their own dice compare. Each player now has a total of five dice: their two pocket dice and the three community dice.

Only two more community dice will be rolled (one Turn die and one River die). This means that players have to decide whether to fold their hands or continue betting based on the combinations they can potentially make.

It’s time to place your bets. The way we bet now is just like in the Open, but with one difference: if everyone decides to check, the Dealer will roll the Flop dice again.

Ways to Bet

When it’s time to bet, you have to decide how much you want to wager on the dice.

Remember, the dice come in four different colors, or “suits,” so if you get five dice of the same color, you have a “flush” hand. Betting always goes in a circle, starting with the player to the left of the Dealer.

• Check: If nobody has bet yet, you can check. That means you’re still in the game, but you’re not ready to fold or make a bet.
• Bet: In any round, the first player to put chips into the pot makes a bet. Once a bet has been made, you can’t check anymore. Each player has to either match the bet, raise the bet, or fold.

Call: When you call, you’re doing the same as the current bet. For example, if the current bet is 10, you put in a 10-point chip. Remember, if you previously opened or called a bet, you only add the amount that the bet was raised by. Take a look at the Game Examples on pages 6-8 for more details. Call and Raise: When you call and raise, you’re matching the current bet and then adding more to it. Let’s say the current bet is 10. You call by putting in 10 and then raise it by adding another 10 to the pot. Now the bet is at 20, and any players who call must put in 20 as well. If you previously bet 10, you only need to add 10 to match the raise. Fold: When you fold, you’re deciding to not play the hand anymore. Folding is a good choice when you don’t have a high chance of winning. To let everyone know you’re out, place a chip on top of your upside-down cup.

Understanding Poker: All-In and the Turn

This is the fourth of five community dice that the dealer will roll. At this point, each player has six available dice: their two pocket dice and four community dice. Just like in the flop, players assess their hands and decide whether to stay in the game and how much to bet.

In a game of Yahtzee, when two dice show the same number and the other two dice show a different number, you have a strong hand.

Deciding the winner

If two or more players have the same winning hand, the player with the highest individual die or dice wins. For example, if two players have a hand with three 4s and two 3s (also known as a full house), the player with the 4s over 3s wins. If the players are still tied, the player with the most dice of the same color wins. If the players are still tied after considering the number of dice of the same color, they divide the winnings among themselves.

Starting a new round

Once the Showdown is over, the round comes to an end. Everyone keeps their chips in front of them. To begin the next round, the new Dealer (the player on the left of the previous Dealer) gathers all 20 dice, puts them back in the bag, and collects the dice cups. Then, we all follow Steps 1 through 5.

The Game’s Conclusion

We keep playing rounds until only one player is left in the game. And that player is the winner!

The Open

In this game with 3 players, we have Players A, B, and C. Let’s see what dice they have in their pockets:

Now, it’s time for the Flop!

After the Flop is rolled, let’s see what each of us has:

I have two pairs, 4s over 2s, so I have a chance for a full house or a straight. I decide to open with a bet of 10.

My opponent, Player B, only has a pair of 4s. He doesn’t seem too confident, but he reluctantly decides to call my bet of 10.

Player C, on the other hand, has two pairs, 4s over Is, and has an even better chance of getting a winning hand. Player C boldly calls my bet and raises it by 10, putting in a total of 20. Now it’s back to me, and I decide to call the 20, but I only need to put in 10 more because I had already put in 10.

Player B, realizing that his one pair is not going to win him the hand, decides to fold. With only two dice left to roll, the chances of getting a straight are slim. The round is over for him.

The Turn

Now that the Turn die has been rolled, let’s see what the two remaining players have:

So, here’s the situation: I have 2 pairs, and I’m still in the game with a chance to get a full house or a straight. I decide to make a bet of 20.
